
The Fall Chinook Salmon ranges from Central California to as far North as the Bering Strait. Alaska currently holds the strongest runs of Chinook salmon. In recent years Chinook numbers have declined at a drastic level and are now of federal concern for both California and Oregon. Gill netting and poor hydro spill from the many dams on the Columbia have all but decimated the once 10,000,000 or more salmon that once ran this largest of Northwest rivers. Conservation efforts must be acted upon now before we loose this mighty fish forever. One thing is known for sure, it will take more than all of the vested interests in fishing standing in a room fighting over the few slices of the paper fish pie that are left to save these and other chinook strains from an overall extinction...
