Silver Salmon are clearly a feast or famine species in the world of anadromous Northwest fish runs. Hatchery supplements have not helped to rebuild the native runs as once intended but they have however managed to keep a thriving salmon fishery from all but disappearing. A bold and seemingly negative statement that one could argue with annual fish numbers as up and down as the tide itself. The good news for this species is that it is capable of rebound with proper management. This is a worthy fish, spirited and full of fight. A personal favorite on the fly rod for me each season. Surely any Northwest state could benifit from an over abundance of these great salmon.... Matthew Clark |
