Togiak River Fishing ~ A short season with millions of salmon all coming in just a few months time are what make this part of the world so special. Few rivers can equal the shear numbers of coho salmon and chinook that enter this medium size Bristol bay river. You would hardly even notice the millions of pink and sockeye salmon also present. With so many great names on the list its not hard to see why the Togiak gets overlooked but their are anglers who know about the coho.

Togiak is a place of amazing beauty & great fishing!

Togiak River Lodge owned and operated by the Lund family. Premier Bristol Bay fishing experiance in a remote setting, yet all the comforts of home!

King salmon are the first on the list to enter the river and although the numbers are not exacting of the near by Nushagak, it does support quite a large run of them. Perhaps still more then most Oregon rivers combine! In July floods of chums, pink and sockeye salmon move into the river creating arm sore fishing days for many traveling anglers. A little later in the season as the air begins to chill thousands and thousands of thick shouldered chrome silver salmon return home leaping and rolling in a spectacle that must be seen to be believed. It can be cold and rainy at times but well worth the effort and your lodge will keep you dry at the end of the day. Connecting to Togiak is from Anchorage to Dillingham and then across Bristol Bay to Togiak.

FLY FISHING THE TOGIAK RIVER: Togiak hosts a solid run of thick shouldered coho salmon each year creating a world class experience. Aggressive coho in this river will take dry fly's such as Pink Wogs and other brightly colored waking patterns. Wide and flat makes for easy casting and prime skating. They will take flashy Alaska style streamers when not interested in a dry. During the peak of the king salmon run it is possible to hook kings with fly fishing gear. A heavy system in the 11 weight or heavier spey is recommended on this large swift river for both casting and control of the large fresh salmon.

The list of groups and company's contributing to the defeat of the proposal is mind boggling to say the least. The good news is that the word is out! Allowing this sort of thing to happen only opens the door to more and more and much like terrorism it will not end until it is snuffed out completely. The thought or ideal that any reason or amount of money is worth allowing mans destructive greed to continue into such pristine places as this makes me cringe. The problem is that mining is already there and growing, that is what opened the door the first time. I have seen what this sort of environmental damage does to rivers in the lower 48....................................................! Matthew Clark-Small Stream Salmon Fishing

Your home for a week in the great land!
You'll be glad your here when it starts to rain

CAMPING ON THE TOGIAK: Those who choose to float the river should know that camping is only allowed on gravel bars located in the river itself. Reservation lands surround parts of the lower river. Following tribal requirements will assure future use and mutual respect for many years to come. Please do not leave any traces of your presence behind in this magic place.
